A beautiful, large house situated in the protected Côte de Grâce area of Honfleur, located on the path up to the magnificent Mont Joli and the 17th century Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Chapel. An important pilgrimage site, the Chapel is an exhilarating 10-min. walk up Mt. Joli; the path starts in front of the house with breathtaking views all the way. Only a 5-min. walk down to the center of Honfleur and the old harbour. Tastefully renovated, the house maintains its 19th cent. charm and architectural details. Its setting affords majestic views over Honfleur and to the Pont de Normandie and is a place of inspiration for artists, writers and photographers. Ground floor is comprised of a spacious living room(TV, English satellite, DVD/VCR player and portable stereo) and very large newly fitted, well equipped kitchen. A lovely private patio in front with BBQ and patio furniture. The 1st floor comprises 2 large bedrooms, 1 with double bed, 1 with 2 single-size beds, and 2 bathrooms, both ensuite, 1 with shower and 1 with a luxurious deep bath. The 2nd floor comprises another 2 large bedrooms, each with 2 single-size beds and 2 bathrooms, both ensuite, same as 1st floor.
Only a 2-hr drive from Paris, Honfleur is both a sea and a river port due to its position between the Seine and the sea. A traditional fishing village, Honfleur has been home to many famous painters, writers and musicians such as Eugene Boudin, Charles Baudelaire and Erik Satie. Many leisure activities are a short walk from the house: swimming pool, tennis courts, Naturospace, beach, large public garden, museums, a long, romantic promenade from the harbour all the way to the beach, shopping, antiques and an abundance of excellent restaurants. The weekly Saturday market and Biomarche on Wednesday are superb for purchasing fresh produce, cheese and meats.
Collectors come from around the world to purchase art from one of Honfleur's many galleries. Our home is the ideal base from which to explore Normandy. Only a 15-min. drive to the fashionable coastal resorts of Deauville and Trouville. About an hour drive through lush, rolling countryside is Falaise, birthplace of William the Conqueror, where you can visit his castle. Drive along the coast toward Cherbourg, stopping in the charming, picturesque seaside towns of St. Vasst-la-Hogue and Barfleur, only two of the dozens of delightful seaside villages within an hour drive. One of the finest and loveliest zoos can be found in Jurques near Caen, only about an hour drive. The abbeys that William the Conquerer and his queen, Matilda, had built are also in Caen as is his castle built in 1060. A day trip to the D-Day beaches, starting at only an hour drive, is an educational and moving experience. The lovely medieval town of Bayeux is about an hour drive. Here you can see the Bayeux Tapestry, an important relic constructed in the 1070s which tells the story of the Battle of Hastings.
